Symrise expands its range of organic actives
The partnership with Bayliss Ranch will see Symrise distributing a series of plant extracts that are certified organic as part of the USDA’s National Organic Program (NOP).
According to the Germany-based ingredients supplier, Bayliss Ranch uses a steam extraction process which captures the volatile aroma constituents of plants such as lavender, sage and peppermint.
The water soluble active ingredients can then be incorporated into a wide range of skin care, hair care and bath products.
Symrise already has a number of botanic extracts that have recently achieved ECOCERT organic certification but the new AllPlant Essences will significantly expand the company’s offerings in this area.
In addition, the company plans to work in partnership with the Bayliss Ranch in order to develop new extracts from organically grown plants.
Number one green supplier
The collaboration is all part of the company’s aim to position itself as the number one supplier of green extracts to the cosmetics industry, explained Symrise spokesperson Katja Derow.
“Symrise is constantly looking for opportunities in the natural and organic sector” she said, adding that more partnerships are likely to be announced shortly.
Although the company also focuses its own research and development resources in the natural and organic sector, partnerships and distribution agreements can speed up the process, Derow added.
Distribution partnerships save time
A partnership with a company already operating in the arena can save the company between two and five years and helps it stay ahead of the gam, she told CosmeticsDesign.com.
President of scent and care at Symrise Dr Klaus Stanzl highlighted the growing demand for natural and organic ingredients and the consumer’s desire for social and ecological responsibility.
“The demand for botanicals which come from controlled biological cultivation will keep growing, especially in Europe and the US, but also in Australia and Asia. As a global corporation, the issue of environmental compatibility is an important one, even before you take market developments into account,” he said.
