According to the company, Helichrysum oil has been difficult to obtain from US suppliers since it was thought that Helichrysum italicum, ssp. serotinum, the proper species, could not easily be grown in the United States.
However Diamond Lotus has spent five years overcoming the obstacles at its plantation at the foot of Mount Shasta in Northern California. Its work has yielded an essential oil that is certified organic not only to US standards, but also in the EU and Asia.
What is more, the company has said that the laboratory where the product was tested was impressed by the high levels of diketones, the compounds credited with the anti-bruise action - reported to be a minimum of 25 percent.
Helichrysum oil from Corsica, meanwhile, typically has between 4 and 10 percent diketones.
Helichrysum oil has a history of use for minimizing bruising and reducing the scars left by injuries, acne and stretch marks when used regularly over time.
The company says it could also prove useful for patients recovering from cosmetic and other surgery.
