Treatt adds banana to its fruit aromas line

Tapping into increasing demands for naturally-derived and distinct fruit aromas, Treatt has launched a new banana aroma adding to its Treattarome range of fruit, herb and vegetable sourced products.

Banana Treattarome 9735 is the latest aroma to be added to this range of natural FTNF (From The Named Food) distillates from the UK-based flavour and fragrance ingredient business.

The company says that the new aroma is wholly distilled from fresh bananas, to give it an authentic, fruity aroma that can be added to a multitude of personal care products, including hair care, skin care and fragrances.

"Produced in Florida from real bananas this is a 100 per cent natural ingredients that gives a full-bodied smell of ripe bananas," said Giles Bovill, company spokesperson.

"The distinct aroma means that it will probably prove most popular for gel and cream skin care products that are marketed on the strength of natural ingredients. This is in line with increasing demands for natural aromas and in particular effective and authentic fruit aromas of all kinds."

As well as aroma, the ingredient can also be used for a host of food and beverage products, where it helps impart a creamy, rich and authentic banana flavouring.

To produce the extract the bananas are carefully selected, locally ripened top-grade fruit, which are then processed using specialist distillation techniques for flavour and aroma entrapment.

The company says that at 0.15 per cent, an intense banana character predominates, while at levels of 0.05 per cent or less, fresh, floral notes subtly complement other components. Phenolics including eugenol and elimicin provide spicy and smoky nuances.

Banana Treattarome 9735 is water soluble with a clear appearance, so it can be incorporated into a wide variety of personal care products.

The aroma is also available all year round, eliminating the problems associated with seasonal fluctuations in supply that can often hamper production and lead to other sourcing problems.

The new ingredient forms part of Treatt's diverse portfolio of Treattarome products which includes malt, kiwifruit, honey, guava, cantaloupe melon, passion fruit and blueberry.
