A new ingredient has been created that is said to reduce the orange
peel effect of cellulite by drawing on the anti-cellulite and
draining properties of the Sacred Lotus plant.

France-based cosmetics solutions provider Silab says that the ingredient, Pro-Sveltyl, is suitable for all slimming body care products thanks to its ability to significantly reduce irregularities of the skin surface resulting from cellulite.

Cellulite is caused during changes in fat mass.

The adipose tissue becomes abnormally swollen with water, secreting pro-inflammatory factors and MMPs - with its functions changing, leaving a clear field for metabolic complications.

With summer fast approaching manufacturers are starting to anticipate the consumer desire for products that combat skin and body issues that go hand in hand with the need for more skin exposure due to warmer weather.

The new ingredient aims to place Silab ahead of competitors, with manufacturers constantly looking for new concepts to retain female consumers who want to look their best in the summer months.

The sacred lotus is an aquatic perennial plant renowned for its intrinsec qualities and being beneficial as a draining active ingredient.

It is said to have anti-inflammatory properties that helps reduce fat storage, whilst also limiting adipose tissue inflammation by stimulating the expression of adiponectin and preserving the skin's fibrous architecture by inhibiting the activity of adipocyte.

Following a 28-day trial of twice daily treatments, Silab found that the ingredient increased the lypolityc activity of adipocytes by 1513 per cent, when used at a 1 per cent dosage – reducing the level of fat stored in the body.

Likewise, when tested at 0.5 per cent Pro-Sveltyl considerably reduced tissue inflammation by stimulating the synthesis of the anti-inflammatory molecule, adiponectin, by 33 per cent.

Indeed, when tested by contact thermography on the thighs, the company found that at a 1 per cent dosage the ingredient improved heat exchanges by 29 per cent, significantly inhibiting the activity of fat cells.

When monitoring the overall study results of the ingredient, the company found that the ingredient served to create a maximum thigh circumference reduction of 2 cm and a hip circumference of 4.5 cm, with the most noticeable result being a 5 cm reduction in the abdominal circumference.
