Formerly known as Atrium Biotechnologies, the company changed its name to Atrium Innovations to reflect its evolution from simply a biotech company into a multi-product manufacturer.
More commonly known for its work with marine ingredients, Atrium has used a tri-peptide to create the 'Neuro-cosmetic' that is said to significantly reverse the signs of neurogenic inflammation.
The move will launch the company in a new sector of the cosmetic industry, generating a larger client base and increasing its foothold of the market.
Neurogenic injury results in the release of neuropeptides that in turn create inflammation at the site of the injury.
According to the company the ingredient helps to stabilise the inflammation through the use of three amino acids that are linked to a lipid.
The ingredient holds features that promote its skin therapy benefits.
The neuropeptide involved is said to make the ingredient easy to handle for manufacturers, while the neurogenic imflammation modulator acts on vasodilation and edema.
By having neurological benefits the ingredient is primarily marketed towards skin stressed by dermatological procedures such as micro-dermabrasion, anti-acne therapies and dermatological surgeries.
Likewise, the soothing aspect of the ingredient can be used for more drastic skin conditions such as atopic dermatitis, contact dermatitis, eczema and rosacea.
However, according to the company the ingredient can also be used in every day skin care products, such as baby care, daily protective skin care, and sensitive and intolerant skin formulations.
The Canadian-based company has recently capitalised on the growing marine ingredient trend that is increasingly prevalent in the cosmetics industry at present.
The company presented the Homeosta-Sea line at the annual meeting of the society of cosmetic chemists in New York earlier this year, following positive reactions from its debut at an Asian trade show earlier this year.
All the ingredients are sourced from the Atlantic Ocean, with the four active ingredients derived from Algae, and, according to a press release from the company, is said to counteract damage caused by the sun, pollution and premature aging.
