Picking up on the growing trend for lipid-based products,
Elizabeth Arden has reformulated its ceramide skin care capsules,
claiming to make the treatment more effective in fighting facial
and throat skin ageing.

The product consists of a single daily dose that is applied topically, relying on the restorative properties of ceramides and essential lipids in an effort to strengthen the skin's barrier.

Initially it is being launched on Elizabeth Arden counters throughout the US tomorrow, 15 September, at a price of $70 (€50) for 60 capsules, with the international roll-out expected to follow on in the next few months.

The company says that the capsules contain its new CLX Complex with Double Retinol technology, which is based on ceramides, essential fatty acids, phytosphygosine and retinol.

According to the company, its research has shown that the combination of fatty acids and ceramides helps to provide enhanced barrier protection.

Ceramides are the essential lipids found in the outer layer of the skin and are vital to maintaining the integrity, strength and ultimately the firmness of the skin's appearance.

As the skin ages, through both environmental and biological influences, the restorative powers of ceramides diminish over time, leading to a degradation of the skin cells and ultimately to visible signs of ageing such as fine lines and wrinkles.

As well as the ceramides, the formula also includes retinyl palmaitate, derived from vitamin A to help repair sun damage and promote collagen production, which also works to restore the skin.

Elizabeth Arden fist launched its ceramide based capsules back in 1990, and the latest formulation is claimed to be the most complex and effective to date.

The company's ceramide-based skin care line also includes facial masks, cream cleanser, SPF 30 moisturizer and night cream.

This article has been amended from the original, which stated the product is intended to be taken orally.

This is not the case, and CosmeticsDesign-Europe apologises for the error.
