Hallstar launches multifunctional sun protection ingredient

Hallstar has unveiled a new multifunctional sunscreen ingredient that combines silicone and a photostabilizer to provide what is claimed to be enhanced UVA and UVB protection.

SolaSil PSF has been designed for both sunscreen products as well as other personal care products that incorporate sunscreens, such as foundation, moisturizer and anti-aging treamtents. "SolaSil PSF building and extends HallStar's expertise in photostability" said Craig Bronda, R&D director for the company's personal care ingredients division. "As photostability experts, we have the technologies our customers need to deliver photostable, broad-spectrum sun protection that meets or exceeds the highest international standards," he added. Multifunctional formulation The formulation is said to be cushioned by the inclusion of silicone, which also helps to enhance spreadability, anti-whitening, and general feel, while also providing the crucial photostablilizing technology to ensure protection. The product is also the first to be launched commercially as part of the joint venture between Chicago-based HallStar and Cosmetic Intellectual Properties (CIP), both of which are key innovators within the personal care category. SolaSil is a joint venture "The SolaSil joint venture was created in response to two industry trends - the need for multifunctional ingredients and the desire for patent peace of mind", said Louis Paul CEO for the CIP Group. The companies also say that they intend to create a family of products from the SolaSil joint venture aimed at enhancing the possibilities for sun care formulators.
