Creating green and stable formulations Manufacturers looking to create environmentally friendly products often try to reduce the quantity of raw materials including water in formulations but instability is a common stumbling block. To help manufacturers create stable products even with high concentrations of surfactants CP Kelco has developed a microfibrous cellulose formula called Axcel CG-PX. The company claims the biodegradable ingredient imparts a true yield stress and provides suspension independent of viscosity, presence of surfactant, surfactant type and level, and ionic strength. As well as working to stabilise formulations, CP Kelco said Axcel CG-PX the ingredient helps formulators distribute actives and insoluble material evenly. Pectin ingredient buffers natural skin pH Alongside this product, CP Kelco launched a pectin at In-Cosmetics called Genu pHresh DF, which moisturises and protects the skin barrier. The ingredient, which is active at pH 4.8, buffers natural skin pH, according to the company. Food expertise informs cosmetic innovation CP Kelco spokesperson Steve Bodicoat told CosmeticsDesign.com that the company is expanding its presence in cosmetics because the industry is moving in its direction. Demand for edible and natural ingredients has skyrocketed in recent years making CP Kelco well placed to respond to the market given its expertise in the development food ingredients. Illustrating the point, Bodicoat said in the food sphere the company sold xanthan gum for salad dressing before discovering its beautifying effects and adapting it for the fast growing natural cosmetics market.
