The latest fragrance launch By Kilian fragrances combines $1,500 fragrance bottles designed by the grand-daughter of Henri Matisse with luxury perfume.

Launched recently in the US at Saks department stores, 50 fragrance bottles have been designed by Sophie Matisse to provide an artistic edge to the company's latest fragrance line.

By Killan fragrances says that, if the bottles are not retained purely as ornaments, the striking abstract designs can equally be re-used as re-fills at a cost of $115.

Each is a unique design

Each of the bottle designs is completely different and has been numbered and stamped with the artist’s engraving to identify them.

Kilian Hennessy, the creator of the fragrance, is himself no stranger to famous ancestors, as his French grandfather was the creator of the world renowned Hennessy Cognac.

Kilian Hennessy has forged a name for himself in the luxury goods markets, which has likewise taken strength from the heritage of his grandfather’s cognac brand

Luxury fragrance range

France-based By Kilian fragrances include Beyond Love, Love, A Taste of Heaven, Cruel Intentions, Straight to Heaven and Taste of Heaven.

Drawing on the fact that perfumery is often deemed an art because of the creative process necessary to combine the right blend of specific fragrance notes, fragrance makers have often teamed up with artists to create equally impressive fragrance bottles.

Fellow French fragrance specialist Thierry Mugler is often acclaimed for its use of elaborate and exotic fragrance bottles and packaging.

This was underlined in March of this year when the company bought up crystal packaging specialist Swarovski to create a beauty and fragrance line - a move that aims to enhance its premium positioning through the incorporation of quality packaging.

The two companies already have one collaboration in the beauty arena under their belt, having developed a range called Angel, 15 years ago.
