Stila Cosmetics targets growth with CEO appointment

Color cosmetics provider Stila Cosmetics has appointed Deanna Kangas as CEO, as part of moves to further grow the brand.

Kangas has been promoted from chief marketing officer with immediate effect, a position she was appointed to in January 2008.

Stila says that Kangas’s contribution in the company during that time has been outstanding, thanks to a combination of 20 years in the beauty business and her specific skills for the position.

All about understanding

"Since her appointment as CMO in January 2008, Deanna has demonstrated strong leadership skills and an ability to deliver consistent results through a comprehensive understanding of Stila’s business model,“ said T. Scott King, managing director for Sun Capital Partners – the company that owns the Stila business.

Before joining Stila, Kangas owned and ran Strategic Growth Consulting, a market consultancy firm, and before that she had headed up Swingtime Designs, a fashion and accessories manufacturing company.

Prior to this she had worked with the Barbie brand at Mattel and had also played an instrumental part in the development of the glass.com website, establishing its leading position as an e-tailer of fragrances and cosmetics and its eventual sale to Estee Lauder.

Beauty industry experience

Kangas has also worked on the launch of several major beauty products, including the Michael Jordan cologne and the the Bath & Body Works fragrance line.

Stila was estabilished in 1994 and has been developed into a nationally-recognized color cosmetics make-up brand, being available in 500 retail outlets throughout North America, as well as 21 international markets.

The company specializes in color cosmetic ranges that are aimed at the younger and high fashion categories, and is noted for products such as its lip glaze pencils, hydrating finishing powder and its convertible color for cheeks and lips.
