Beauty social networking site offers market research reports to industry

A social networking site that provides cosmetics advice to consumers, can double up as a market research resource for the industry, according to the site’s designer.

Beautystat is a site that provides its members with a forum to discuss products, skin problems, as well as articles posted by the editorial team and contributors such as dermatologists and makeup artists.

The idea behind the site is to allow members to contact those who have the same skin concerns as them and share product recommendations, site designer Ron Robinson told CosmeticsDesign.

“I have spoken to hundreds of women across the country, out of all the resources available they rely most on women like themselves who have similar skin concerns,” he said.

“This site allows women to get that advice on a broader scale. Consumers tell us what products worked best for them and why and then I send this to the consumers with the same skin profile.”

Market research information

In addition, it is exactly this information which is of interest to the industry, he claims.

“In my twenty years of working in the industry it was clear the most important information to a company is what consumers like and dislike about their products,” he said.

Beautystat can provide quarterly reports to its industry customers containing information about what our users like and dislike, he explained. The information is divided into demographic sections such as ethnicity, age and skin type.

In addition, the site can offer custom research, he said.

“If a company is looking to launch a particular product or concept on a certain demographic we can test out the idea on a section of our users and communicate the feedback,” Robinson added.

Finished product manufacturers will also be able to advertise on the sites, he said.
