Packaging prototype company looks to global expansion

Packaging prototype provider Pakready is planning European and global expansion with the help of a new managing director.

The UK-based company provides machinery and software to allow companies to mock up prototype packaging quickly and easily.

Derek Sizer who will take on the managing director’s role in the company, said he will be concentrating on building relationships within the industry rather than the technology.

“Technology is important but it tends to dominate the thinking of many suppliers,” he said.

“It is more important to understand customers’ key objectives and build solutions considering local needs.”

Customer understanding combined with product excellence

This, combined with the company’s ‘excellent’ product will mean much of Sizer’s new role will be building strong, long term relationships with end users.

The Manchester-based company offers the Pakready Creator, software allowing users to design from scratch their package or customise an already existing template, as well as supplying printers, cutters and a press to transfer images onto the packaging.

In order to appeal to customers during these particularly challenging times, the company also offers rental and lease purchase options.

Time to market is ‘king’

According to Sizer, time to market is king in the packaging industry and companies that can offer physical prototypes to prospective clients while testing out how they look ‘on the shelf’ will have a distinctive advantage.
