Originality was rewarded at HBA’s International Packaging Design Awards as Lancome’s Lotus eye shadow compact won the Grand Award at the ceremony.

The eyeshadow color compact was designed by HCT Packaging and takes the form of a three dimensional oval shape with three petals that open to reveal the eye shadows within.

HBA’s annual awards aim to recognize innovation within the packaging industry, with industry executives judging the products on the design concept, material use, decorative processing and brand messaging.

Recognizing all categories in the mass and prestige markets

The awards cover the whole industry, with fragrance, skin care, personal care and cosmetics represented in both mass and prestige markets.

HCT and Lancome’s fellow winners in the cosmetics sector were Maesa Group which supplied the Ed Hardy Color Palettes by New Wave Fragrances that entered in the mass sector.

The fragrance mass and prestige awards were won by Idolatre by L’Bel supplied by Pochet and Harajuku Lovers Fragrance by Coty, respectively. Prestige fragrance and cosmetic packaging manufacturer Pochet supplied the bottle for the latter, while Rexam supplied the actuator and Alcan and Jackel the caps with integrated doll characters.

Coty Harajuku Lovers Fragrance double scoop

Coty’s Harajuku Lovers Fragrances also came home with a trophy at the Fragrance Foundation FiFi awards earlier this summer, winning best women’s luxury fragrance.

The green packaging sector, which was particularly well represented at this year’s show, was taken by Physician’s Formula for its Organic Wear Face Sculpting Trio Face Powder.

The powder compact was supplied by Global Village, the carton by Finn Industries, and the brush by Bros Products.

Bamboo as a packaging material was a popular one this year in the green category, with Beauty Society and Urban Decay both winning finalists awards for their bamboo color cosmetics palettes.

HCT Packaging was the supplier of a second winning award in the prestige category, this time in the skin care category for Dior’s Capture Totale Multi-Perfection, while World Wide Packaging and Avon took home the skin care mass award for their Anew Clinical Crow’s Feet Corrector.

The HBA show, which opened Tuesday, will continue on Wednesday September 16 and Thursday September 17, where the winning products are on display.
