Jan Dekker launches organic and fair trade aloe vera

Cosmetics ingredients supplier Jan Dekker is launching an organic and fair trade aloe vera ingredient for cosmetics products, which it claims is a world first.

The company already offers a range of aloe products including one organic version certified by the USDA, but this is the first to get fair trade certification.

Aloe Con Up 200 is an ultra purified pure dried powder manufactured from the aloe barbadensis plant in Guatemala.

Certified by Switzerland-based organisation IMO under its Fair for Life programme, the ingredient and its production is guaranteed to comply with both the social responsibility and the fair trade criteria of the organisation.

Jan Dekker will be the exclusive distributor of the ingredient, which is produced in partnership with Florida Food Products, in the UK, France, Spain, the Benelux countries and Poland.

Jan Dekker is ‘going green’

The launch is part of Jan Dekker’s move to ‘go green’, explained the company’s communications manager Kelly Schockman.

“Jan Dekker works with partners who manufacture organic and/ or fair trade ingredients, or who have developed a sustainability policy, as we want to promote environmentally and socially friendly products,” she told CosmeticsDesign-Europe.com

In addition, Schockman explained that the ingredient was in response to customer needs, who are increasingly demanding organic and fair trade products.

According to the company, the ingredient is very versatile and can be formulated into a wide range of personal care products, but the most frequent applications are after sun products and anti-microbial hand cleaners.

The company will be showcasing the ingredient at the upcoming in-cosmetics show in Paris in April, along with another new release, a silver vine extract.
