The agreement will run until the end of December 2015 and will see Inter Parfums both developing the products for sale within Betsey Johnson stores and online platforms, but also distributing independently to a range of retailers.
Betsey Johnson already has one perfume under the brand name; but, this license comes to an end with Inter Parfums' exclusive agreement.
The first launch resulting from the agreement is set for August 2010 and will be a new take on the designer’s vintage fragrance. This product will be exclusive to Betsey Johnson stores and one select retailer, according to Inter Parfums President, Andy Clarke.
A new fragrance collection is expected to follow next year. In addition, a company spokesperson told CosmeticsDesign.com USA that it will be exploring the cosmetics and personal care categories with the hope of launching products in these sectors sometime in 2011.
Burberry cosmetics line recently launched
Inter Parfums has recently seen the launch of the cosmetics line for Burberry, one of its flagship brands. Released earlier this month, the cosmetics line is expected to be a high earner for the company after the success of the brand’s fragrance products.
Although the company expects the line to boost sales, there is a cost factored in for the launch of approximately $1.5m.
“Our guidance factors in the costs associated with the development and launch of the Burberry cosmetics line which required significant investment in the first year to develop the products, build cosmetics counters, and hire and train personnel,” said CFO Russel Greenberg upon publication of the first quarter results earlier this year
