The company’s first product, Suntegrity All Natural Moisturizing Face Protection SPF 30 is now joined in the range by the All Natural Moisturizing Body Protection SPF 30 and the daily Sun Defense Dietary Supplement with Vitamin D3.
The dietary supplement touts a propriety blend of ingredients containing well known antioxidants such as polypodium leucotomos extract, which Harvard medical research has suggested decreases UV-induced skin damage.
Astaxanthin, lutein, and beta-carotene are the other antioxidants contained in the supplement, which may reduce the severity of UV sun damage to the skin, thus helping to reduce photo-aging and skin cancer, according to research.
“We produced Sun Defense for year round use because we wanted to make a holistic line that treated the entire body,” Suntegrity president Tricia Trimble told CosmeticsDesign.com USA.
She said that the Sun Defense supplement is intended to help boost the body's natural defense against sun damage and to give the body the Vitamin D3 it is not producing when sunscreen is worn.
“Current research has implicated vitamin D deficiency as a major factor in the pathology of at least 17 varieties of cancer as well as heart disease, stroke, hypertension, autoimmune diseases, diabetes, depression, chronic pain, osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, muscle weakness, muscle wasting, birth defects, periodontal disease, and more,” Trimble continued.
The California based company said that key antioxidants contained in the topical zinc oxide sunscreens include astaxanthin, red algae, hyaluronic acid, pomegranate oil, cucumber extract, and tea oil.
“Most people think they only need to wear sunscreen in summer, but the truth is protecting yourself from skin cancer and maintaining healthy, youthful looking skin requires sun protection 365 days a year. With skin cancer on the rise, sun protection isn’t a luxury, it’s a necessity,” added Trimble.
