According to the company, the organic emulsifier has similar performance and aesthetic benefits to the non-organic alternatives currently on the market.
“One of the key formulation challenges for personal care companies looking to manufacture USDA organic personal care products is finding emulsifiers that allow them to achieve aesthetics on par with their current product offerings” explained VP of R&D for the company Jack Guth.
According to Guth, Hydresia O will address this market need.
Oleosome technology
Like the rest of the company’s range, the ingredient is based on the oleosome technology which involves harvesting oil bodies intact from seeds, Botaneco CEO Mike Stangel explained.
“All of the Hydresia products are based on the same technology but they each have different characteristics and unique applications. Hydresia O is organic, made with certified raw materials and using certified processes and facilities,” he told CosmeticsDesign.com USA.
The need for organically certified facilities was also one of the reasons behind the partnership with KDC, Stangel explained.
“KDC is a natural partner for Botaneco in this venture - having continuously invested in the R&D and manufacturing capabilities to develop and manufacture leading USDA-certified personal care products since 2009, they have the ability to take this category to the mass market,” he said.
US contract manufacturer KDC has a number of partnerships with national brand owners and will be using the Hydresia O as an emulsifier in a range of personal care products, Botaneco’s manager of business development Tony Abboud explained.
