Ingredients company Lipotec has launched a marine-based moisturising and anti-wrinkle active that it compares to hyaluronic acid.

According to the Spain-headquartered company, the new ingredient, Hyadisine, can provide a long lasting moisturising effect along with an immediate wrinkle reduction.

The company refers to the ingredient as hyaluronic-like and said it was rich in the same monosaccharide (glucoronic acid) as hyaluronic acid and has a similar high water retaining capacity.

Marine bacterial strain

Spokesperson for the company Raquel Merino said that hyadisine is sourced from a marine bacterial strain collected from a colony of mussels living in the Bay of Douarnez in Brittany.

“These organisms develop unique physiological and biochemical characteristics since they are exposed to desiccation and other environmental changes and can produce microbial exopolysaccharides,” she told CosmeticsDesign-Europe.com.

One of these exopolysaccharides is the basis for hyadisine, she explained.

The ingredient itself is made using biotechnological processes, although the company underlined that it has not been genetically modified.

“The marine bacterium was isolated from its natural environment, in Brittany. Hyadisin was obtained from this marine bacterium through optimised bioprocess without the need to modify its properties genetically,” she said.

Reduce fine lines and moisturise

According to the company, in vivo tests showed that the active can improve skin appearance and reduce fine lines in a matter of hours.

“In comparison with the placebo hyadisine showed in vivo a statistically significant increase in the mean basal values of skin hydration after 2, 8 hours and 20 days of applying the cream and at the end of the treatment with an average of 37,2%,” Merino said.

In addition, she highlighted the ability of the ingredient to improve wrinkle appearance. Two hours after applying a 1 per cent hyadisine cream, Merino said, there was a reduction of lines by about 11.2 per cent.
