The Research Institute for Fragrance Materials (RIFM) is calling for information on the alkyl cyclic ketones which will then be submitted to an Independent Expert Panel for analysis.

Alkyl cyclic ketones are used in a range of products including fine fragrances, decorative cosmetics, shampoos and other toiletries, a spokesperson for RIFM told CosmeticsDesign.com USA.

Materials in the alkyl cyclic ketones group are widely used commercially, the spokesperson added, although some ingredients in the family are used in higher volumes than others.

“This group is a high priority group as defined by the RIFM criteria document for the prioritization of fragrance ingredients for safety evaluation. The criteria are defined by volume of use, systemic exposure and structural alert,” the spokesperson told CosmeticsDesign.com USA.

Testing or exposure data

Any relevant information, which could include testing or exposure data, should be submitted to the RIFM before April 11, before it will be passed on to the Independent Expert Panel for evaluation.

The evaluation is to establish safe use levels for the ingredients and is part of the normal process of ingredients research, according to RIFM.

All relevant information should be submitted to Dr Ladd Smith at fzvgu@evsz.bet .
