Stiefel launches new anti-aging product based on patented CoffeeBerry extract
The complex has been developed to help fight oxidative damage, which is one of the leading causes of skin cell depletion, something that has been scientifically proven to be a primary contributor to premature skin aging.
Stiefel, which is a part of the GSK group, says that the CoffeeBerry Exract was developed from the berry of the African Coffea Arabica plant, which is known for its enhanced anti-oxidant properties. The extract is actually derived from the coffee cherry, which is also used as food.
High level of polyphenol anti-oxidants
The company claims to be one of the only cosmetics players in the world to use this fruit as an extract, and says that it provides particularly effective anti-aging properties due to the fact that it contains a higher level of polyphenol anti-oxidants than many other leading sources, including pomegranate and green tea.
Indeed, the extract is said to have an Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity – the industry recognized standard for testing anti-oxidant properties – of 15,000 to 17,500, putting it right at the top of the list compared to other naturally occurring antioxidants.
As well as the fruit extract, the complex also contains glycerin, flowering yarrow extract, vitamin E, shea butter, retinol and glycyrrhiza gabra, which is a licorice root extract – ingredients that combine with the anti-oxidants to provide moisturizing properties that contribute to skin firmness and hydration.
Clinical trials prove efficacy
The company says that the results of the complex on the skin have been tested and proven in a 12 week clinical trial which provided data underlining the fact that skin hydration was improved by 113 percent and skin firmness was improved by 9 percent.
On top of this, the clinical study also showed that the anti-oxidative properties helped to neutralize free radicals that can accelerate the aging process. “It helps to repair existing damage while also protecting against future damage,” the company confirmed from the study results.
During the trials the company said that 75 percent of the patients that took part responded that their skin texture appeared more luminous and notably smoother after using the complex.
