The meeting held on the 30th of November, invited stakeholders to attend with the opportunity to present information regarding cosmetic microbiological safety and to suggest areas for the possible development of FDA guidance documents.
The Office of Cosmetic and Colors, a department of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition (CFSAN) is responsible for the federal regulation of cosmetic products and believes that guidance on factors and practices to promote the microbiological safety of cosmetics would benefit consumers and the industry.
The agenda covered areas such as microbiological testing of cosmetics, types of preservative systems, preservative efficacy testing and product and packaging characteristics that affect microbial Growth.
The minutes of the meeting will be available to the public in January 2012.
