Eight concurrent trade shows held in Anaheim, California last week, gave beauty industry professional the opportunity to source packaging, contract manufactures and warehouse solutions.

The WestPack trade show, held February 12 – 14 at the Anaheim convention center was adjacent to the Medical Design & Manufacturing (MD&M), Automation Technology Expo (ATX), Pacific Design and Manufacturing, Sustainability in Manufacturing, Electronics, Plastec, AeroCon, and SensorTec trade show expositions.

WestPack exhibitors benefit from crossover attendance from the co-located Anaheim event as WestPack is one of the nation’s leading design and manufacturing events.

There were over 2,000 suppliers featuring materials, equipment, systems, and services in every aspect of advanced manufacturing, machinery, components, and contract services. Due of the diversity of the event it was possible to meet leading suppliers in all aspects of the beauty business, while simultaneously browsing through the hi-tech pharmaceutical arena to catch sight of the future in medical skin care devices.

Although the show is heavily focused on engineering there were strong exhibitors in brand management and packaging design. There were 14,000 companies and over 2,000 exhibitors.

3D beauty design concepts produced

Esko a leading developer of packaging, printing design and workflow solutions, featured an updated computer software plug-in program that assists with workflow, design and production tools for the packaging and printing supply chains. This revolutionary technology allows beauty brands to see their fully branded product concepts in 3D before they are printed.

This system is so popular with designers that according to Aleks Zlatic, Vice President Western and Latin Americas “Many major brand's packaging is produced using some aspect of our system.”

The 3D technology comes from a linked solution that is integrated with Adobe Creative Suite. Esko works with ink suppliers and many 3D formats, like Collada, to incorporate shapes into the structural design software. This system provides visual and approval information for speed to market.
