People on the Move : Ashland, Coty and Avon

In our latest People on the Move Cosmetics Design report son key executive appointments at Ashland, Coty’s US division and Avon Products.

Specialty chemicals provider Ashland has announced the appointment of Janice Teal, Ph.D. to its elected board of governors, bringing the total number of directors on the board to 11.

Teal was the chief scientific officer at Avon Products and brings with her 28 years of leadership specific to the scientific research area. She joined Avon in 1982, having gained a Ph.D. in pharmacology from Emory University and retired from the company in 2010.

During her time at Avon Teal served as vice president for the company’s Skin Care Laboratories division, which saw her oversee the development of the Anew skin care brand, which has to date reached over $1bn in total sales.

Coty appoints new president of prestige business

Coty has announced the appointment of Jean Mortier as president of the company’s prestige business, which will see him immediately take responsibility for all products within Coty’s worldwide distribution portfolio.

Mortier has been with Coty since 2005, when he became senior vice president for the company’s commercial division.

Prior to that he had worked with Unilever’s Cosmetics International division, as senior vice president, but he made the switch to Coty when the company bought Cosmetics International from Unilever in 2005.

In his new role Mortier will lead the continued development and growth of the Coty Prestige portfolio, combining that responsibility with seeking new business ventures and collaboration. The new position will be based in Paris.

Finally, Avon has also made a new appointment to its board of directors, following the election of Charles Noski, a position he takes up with immediate effect and one that increases the number of directors on the board to 12.

Noski has extensive high level executive experience, having served as vice chairman of Bank of America from June 2011 to September 2012, having also served as executive vice president and chief financial officer for the bank, prior to that.

He has also served as corporate VP and CFO for Northrop Grumman, together with holding key executive positions on the board of AT&T and Hughes Electronics, as well as being a partner at Deloitte & Touche.

Noski also serves as a director of Avery Dennison and Microsoft corporation, as well as being a former director at Air Products and Chemicals, Automatic Data Processing and Morgan Stanley.
