Estée Lauder, BASF and Merck are just some of the big name companies participating in the Color & Pigments 2012 conference event, which is taking place in Miami, Florida from October 24-26.

The three-day event is organized by Smithers Rapra and features two intertwined conferences - Color Cosmetics Summit and Future of Pigments - with 37 sessions scheduled in total.

"This year, the color and pigment industry has had several new groundbreaking findings that are affecting consumer use to a greater degree,” said conference director Andrew Smaha.“This conference will be a hot-spot for industry professionals to breakdown these innovations and collaborate on what will be in store for the future."

Collaborative competition and fundamentals of pigment processing

The event kicks off with two pre-conference sessions that will run concurrently. One of these is an interactive workshop looking at collaborative competition in the pigment industry. It aims to discuss how, by competing less with itself and collaborating more, the pigments industry can become more competitive.

The other pre-conference session is entitled ‘Color, Color Science and the Processing of Colorants Effectively & Efficiently’. It will provide an overview of the fundamentals of pigment processing and color cosmetics, looking at different grinding methods and which of these are best suited to particular color cosmetic systems.
