Sephora teams up with Marc Jacobs to debut first color cosmetics line

Rumors that the fashion designer and beauty giant have been working together on a color cosmetics line has finally come to fruition as the first collection of 'Marc Jacobs Beauty’ is now ready to be rolled out in August.

Sephora has plans to give consumers a sneak peak of the line by releasing five pieces from the 122 collection of gel foundations, concealer pens, lightweight powders, mascara, eyeliners, lipsticks, blushes, eye shadows, bronzers and nail polishes on July 19.

"The range includes an assortment of 16 complexion and color cosmetic formulas in an array of shades, as well as four makeup brushes, all inspired by the spirit of youth, confidence and experimentation- redefining beauty as imperfectly perfect.”

Collection won't be 'lazy'

The collection has been designed under four specific themes or categories and deemed to be very true to Jacobs’ versatile fashion with the likes of a unisex lip balm, brow tamer and colour corrector labelled as 'Boy-tested, girl-approved'.

Other categories include a Smart Complexion for powder and foundation, Blacquer for eyeliner and lashes, and Hi-Per Color for heavily pigmented color products like eye shadow and lip color, this line,  its safe to say will be bright, bold and dramatic as Jacobs has been known to frown on neutral makeup, calling it 'a little lazy'.

Natural progression into cosmetics

The range already appears to be going down well with the industry with the likes of Louis Vuitton's creative director already using the cosmetics line on models at his last runway show, as well as director Sofia Coppola at the MET gala in May, and musician Kim Gordon.

Jacobs already has a line of fragrances for men and women and this extension into makeup seems like a natural step for the celebrated designer.

I like the transformative qualities of fashion and fashion to me is not just clothing, it’s handbags, it’s shoes, it’s clothes, it’s hair, it’s makeup, it’s fragrance, it’s the whole ritual of making those choices, of enjoying the ritual, of making the choices that will tell the world who you want to be that day," said the designer on his latest venture.
