Reports by the news website Advertising Age suggested that P&G had developed a new plastic molding process which could save the company up to $1bn per year in costs.
According to the news outlet, the company’s patent applications suggest that their process could allow them to manufacture plastic packaging up to 75% thinner, thus producing significant savings in production.
The new plastic was also suggested to be easier to recycle because it used none-petrochemical alternatives as raw materials. The report suggested Procter & Gamble’s former CEO Bob McDonald said that the plastic molding technology could save the company money as well as reducing its environmental footprint.
However, P&G has stated that the story was produced without corroboration and is highly inaccurate.
