Art of Packaging Award Gala to honor Mary Kay achievements

The annual Art of Packaging Award Gala is set for May 6th, at the University Club of New York, and this year the event will honor Mary Kay for its achievements in packaging design.

The award and gala is organised by the Pratt Institute, and is dedicated to a fragrance or cosmetic company that has developed innovative or technically advanced packaging.

This year Mary Kay was chosen for its overall contribution to packaging design, which translates into $3bn in global sales and stretches to products that are sold in 37 markets worldwide.

Building on 25 years of the award

Previous recipients of the award have included Aramis & Designer Fragrances, Calvin Klein, P&GCoty Prestige, Dior Beauty, Estée Lauder, Ralph Lauren Fragrances and Shiseido.

In its 25th year, the gala is the world’s only scholarship for masters students in the packaging field, and is held to help raise awareness of this area and aid individuals to pursue careers in the field of packaging design for the beauty industry.

The organization says that to date the gala and award has helped provide scholarships to nearly 100 Pratt Students, helping them to carve out careers in the area.

Marc Rosen Scholarship

The gala is dedicated to the Marc Rosen Scholarship and Education fund for Packaging by Design at Pratt Institute and last year raised over $350,000.

Marc Rosen is an internationally acclaimed designer and entrepreneur and a trustee of the Pratt Institute, where he teaches the world’s only course on cosmetics and fragrance packaging design.

The masters-level program is a broad-based curriculum that covers new product and package development, with specific courses in packaging design, brand development, visual communications, digital technology, marketing and structural packaging.
