Banana Boat goes multifunctional for new sun care launches

Leading sunscreen brand Banana Boat has launched three new products on the market that tap into growing trend for multifunctional sun care.

The company is launching SunComfort UltraMist, Dry Oil Clear UltraMist with argan oil and Sport Performance lotion with Powerstay Technology.

The new formulations have been designed to provide what the company describes as unique functionality to fit in with different lifestyles and personal requirements.

Multi-skin benefits

"Today, people are looking for sun care products that offer multi-skin benefits that go beyond UVA/UVB protection, like water-resistance, ease of application and comfort," said Chris Carballo, senior brand manager of Banana Boat brand sunscreens.

"Banana Boat's new SunComfort Clear UltraMist Sunscreen is a great example of this - it provides Broad Spectrum UVA/UVB protection and water resistance, but also allows sand to easily brush off and has moisturizing benefits."

The product launches are part of significant drive by Banana Boat to launch a series of new products and reformulations, more of which are due to be rolled out during the course of the year.

Sun care segments is on a drive to innovate

Experts have repeatedly pointed out that sun care companies are having to innovate in order to stay relevant and competitive, evinced by Banana Boat’s current crop of launches.

Leading market researcher Euromonitor has repeatedly stressed this trend, underlining how important it is to do so in such a crowded and competitive market.

With competition running high in sun care, consumer segmentation has become increasingly important,” noted Euromonitor’s Nicole Tyrimou of the trend when she spoke to Cosmetics Design last year.

There are now different products available specifically for babies rather than children, for athletes, for extreme sportsmen and for skiers.

Not just protection from the sun

Formulators at Banana Boat, which is part of the Energizer Personal Care company, have developed the new products around two key requirements – making sunscreen easier to apply, and more effective against a host of different conditions and environmental hazards.

The Sun Comfort Clear UltraMist line, which comes in SPF 30 and 50+, stands out because it allows sand to easily brush off and moisturizes to relieve dryness caused by both sun and other environmental factors such as chlorine in pools.

Indeed, the formula has been clinically tested to prove it is effective in seven conditions – sun, pool, ocean, wind, sweat, sand and extreme heat up to 100 degrees.

Sports fans and people on the go

The formulators have also put a new lease on Dry Oil Clear Ultramist, having included argan oil, which is said to provide a lightweight dry formula that is delivered in an easy one touch quick spray for people on the hop.

And for the even more active, Sport Peformance Clear Ultramist Sunscreen has been formulated with the company’s Powerstay Technology.

Powerstay Technology was introduced at the end of last year, and is specifically designed for the sports enthusiast and more active individual because it provides protection in very hot conditions, is water-resistant for up to 80-minutes and is also highly sweat-resistant.
