It’s official! The dates are confirmed for in-cosmetics North America

Reed Exhibitions has taken the bold move of adding a fifth event to its burgeoning in-cosmetics portfolio after it confirmed the dates for in-cosmetics North America.

The new in-cosmetics North America will take place from 7 – 8 of September 2016 at Pier 36 in the Lower East Side of Manhattan, New York City.

Adding to the existing in-cosmetics events in Europe, Brazil, Korea and Thailand, organizer Reed Exhibitions says that the objective of the North America event is to provide an insight into product innovation, technical education and marketing strategies for the region.

Potential exhibitors have been targeted by the Reed Exhibition sales team for many months now, so the word was already out on the grapevine that the event was about to rolled out.

"Industry's worst kept secret"

Cosmetics Design spoke to Lucy Gillam, in-cosmetics group director, who humorously referred to the preparations for the North American event as being the “industry’s worst kept secret”.

Staff at Reed Exhibition have spent more than a year busily searching for the right venue and dates, as well as negotiating with the New York chapter of the Society of Cosmetic Chemists in an attempt to have the organization on side and ensure that it does not clash too much with the Suppliers Day event, held every May in Edison, New Jersey.

Gillam told Cosmetics Design she believed that the Pier 36 offered the perfect sized venue as a launch pad for the North America event, which she hopes will bring particular value on the educational side – filling the gap left by the demise of the Health & Beauty America event.

Big players already booked as exhibitors

In an official release to confirm the event, Reed Exhibitions said they had already confirmed a number of big ingredients and fine chemical players would be attending the event, including Ashland, Caregen, Clariant, Gattefosse, KCC Corporation, Lucas Meyer, Merck, Nanjing Cosmos, Technature, The Innovation Company and Vantage Specialty Ingredients.

Likewise, the organizer says it will also have an international perspective, thanks to representation from more than 20 countries, including Australia, Germany, China, Slovakia, Argentina, Korea and the United Kingdom.

Reed Exhibitions has been trying to expand its footprint into the North American market for many years, not least because it remains the largest market for cosmetics and personal care products in the world.

North America remains the world's largest cosmetics market

Likewise, the fact that the venue is in New York City reflects the fact that more than 2,000 cosmetic and personal care manufacturers are situated in the Tri-state region – a figure that is said to account for approximately 70% of the total industry in the United States.

Likewise, New York City is also the home of nearly all the major international players, housing the headquarters for companies such as Avon, Estee Lauder, Elizabeth Arden and Coty.

Market research from Euromonitor about the US market would also give credibility to Reed Exhibitions decision to establish its North America event:

“The forecast for beauty and personal care in the US is positive for the coming years," according to Euromonitor. "Higher incomes will allow more consumers to buy premium products and an ageing population will also become more prominent, driving growth in key areas such as anti-ageing skin care.

"As a result, the sector is booming, with thousands of cosmetic manufacturers competing for their share of the market. Innovative new ingredients and current market insights are very much in-demand which is why we have decided to replicate the globally-successful in-cosmetics formula in the States.”
