Cosmopack New York brings the Italian beauty business to the Americas
Cosmoprof organized the two-day event, which took place at Spring Studios in the Tribeca neighborhood of Manhattan. During a week crowded with beauty industry events competing for traffic, Cosmopack attracted over more than 150 buyers from North and South America, notable professionals were on hand from the US, Canada, Mexico, Chile, Brazil, Guatemala, and Peru.
Seminar speakers
Thanks to insights from “experts of the sector,[including] journalists, trend agencies, opinion leaders and influencers of the US beauty industry,” the educational component of this year’s Cosmopack New York Forum “analyzed trends, innovations, challenges and opportunities coming from the supply chain,” notes the Cosmoprof press release.
The forum included several panel presentations and single-speaker seminars as part of Cosmopack’s “I am a Beauty Guru” platform. For instance, attendees heard from Elie Papierniek, managing partner and creative director of Centdegrés, on just how effectively packaging can be used to tell a brand and product story.
And Cosmetics Design sat on a panel with Leslie Sherr (material innovation expert and author) and Maxwell Luthy (director at Trends & Insights). That seminar, titled “Behind and Beyond: Unveiling the Innovations from the Beauty Supply Chain” explored the trends and materials that matter most as the age of sustainability looms large.
Made in Italy
The event showcased “the excellence of the Italian beauty industry on the East Coast,” with exhibitors from contract manufacturing, packaging, and industrial beauty technology. And several attendees were overhead noting that the event’s careful focus made it easier to transact business on site.
Exhibitors at the event included (among many others) contract manufacturer Hypnotic Cosmetics, which specializes in filling and packaging; Omnicos group, which was showing a new pressed powder layering innovation; Pink Frogs Cosmetics, focusing on skin care, hair care, and perfumes; and Cosmoproject, which offers services from R&D through to packaging.
Context clues
Inspiration was in no short supply at Comopack New York. The event included a refined and prominent gallery exhibition called Visionnaire, created in collaboration with the contract manufacturer Chromavis. The gallery presented trends for the future of beauty in an artful format meant to stimulate new ideas and cosmetic product creations. The six related displays refigured concepts like color, material, and perspective.
Cosmopack also featured The Make Up Room, a live demo space produced in partnership with FTL MODA – New York Fashion Week. Top models Yun Gao and Stacey Farnet participated in sessions with makeup artists like Suzanna Hallili, hair stylist Matt Fugate, and the art director of FTL MODA, Pablo Patané.
And the Innovation Circle showcased award-winning new products and initiatives from along the supply chain, such as Omnicos’ pressed powder layering (mentioned above) and NastriTex intricately textured power compacts, which drew inspiration from 17th century Italian couture and were developed in collaboration with Barbara Montagnoli Atelier.
