IFSCC 2016 congress kicks off October 30th

The annual gathering of cosmetic chemists and affiliated beauty industry professionals is just weeks away and the program is packed with scientific educational sessions, technical exhibits, and lively opportunities for networking and recreation.

It’s been over 10 years since the international event has been hosted by the US society. And, this year’s congress will take place 30 October through 2 November in Orlando, Florida, home of the Walt Disney World Resort.

The team behind the event has “been hard at work to create an atmosphere blended with the right mix of science and learning and enjoyable social events,” writes Guy Padulo, 2016 IFSCC organizing committee chair, in his remarks previewing the congress. “This,” he says, “is the place to be in 2016 where scientists from around the world will meet as one Global community.”

Science first

There will be nearly 75 scientific presentations throughout the congress. Those will cover topics such as market trends, delivery systems, biomimicry, sun care, fragrance, regulatory compliance, the microbiome, and hair care technology.

Speakers will be on hand from BASF, Johnson & Johnson, L’Oréal, Symrise, IFF Lucas Meyer Cosmetics, LVMH, and Vantage Specialty Chemicals.

Hundreds of poster presentations will be on display too. These will cover topics like “Combinational Use of Microspheres for Soft Focus Effect” by Pascal Delrieu of Kobo Products, “How Can Cosmetics Enhance Healthy Appearance?” from experts at Gettysburg Colleges and Chanel Research & Technology, “Next Generation Facial Masks” by Isabelle Van Reeth of Dow Corning, and “A Novel Cosmetic Approach Against Air Pollution: Absorption Performance of Fillers” from the L’Oréal research and innovation team.

And well over 60 suppliers will be exhibiting at the congress too.

Fun and games

The annual congress isn’t only about science. It’s about comradery and community too. So the organizers have built optional activities into the program, including a pool-side opening ceremony, an Epcot social night, and a gala banquet to close the event on Wednesday 2 November.

Beyond all that, a golf tournament and 5K run will be held on Sunday. And since it’s expected some attendees will come with children, there’s a hands-on formulation event for aspiring cosmetic chemists age 7 – 17.
