Northwest Cosmetic Laboratories acquires Dream Team Beaute

The prestige color cosmetics and skin care contract manufacturer, headquartered in Idaho, has just announced completion of a deal that boosts the company’s powder production capabilities, expands services to West Coast clients, and more.

Northwest Cosmetic Laboratories got its start in 1995 and has since grown in to a company with formulation and production capabilities in several categories: skin care, hair care and styling, color cosmetics, and bath and body care.

NCL is also known for its Cosmovation process—services that span R&D, formulation, packaging, quality assurance, production, quality control, logistics, and marketing.

Bigger and better

The company opted for growth through acquisition in hopes of augmenting its current business. “We have been seeking an acquisition that would complement our brand and bring in a new element of innovation,” affirms Matt Bryant, CEO at NCL, in a media release about the deal. “We found these great attributes in Dream Team and its talented founders, Kimberly Clark and Esme Mancia,” adds Bryant.

Going forward the talents, capabilities, and infrastructure of Dream Team Beaute will be bolted on to those of NCL. “The prospect of blending their experienced and forward-thinking people with our team will result in cutting-edge cosmetics and unique services that can only be found in our family of companies. We are excited to welcome them and their employees to the NCL team,” Bryant tells the press.

Products and services

Dream Team Beaute built its business by innovating color cosmetics formulations and textures for prestige brands. The company’s R&D team also works hard to deliver on new product concepts and discover what’s possible with the latest ingredient tech.

Commenting on the acquisition, Dream Team co-founder Kimberly Clark is optimistic, noting that “this combination with NCL will help Dream Team continue to grow its reach beyond color.” Co-founder Esme Mancia shares that view: “Our capabilities complement each other very well, and we can leverage NCL’s organization and infrastructure to bring more resources to serve our customers.”

Dream Team’s powder capabilities are one of the biggest assets in this deal. And NCL is eager to add those as Bryant suggests in his remarks to the press. “Together, we will offer more prolific capabilities and talent, including pressed and loose powders,” he says.

People and places

The NCL media release announcing the deal made no mention of terms or staff changes due to synergies. “The integration of Dream Team and NCL will take place over the next few months. Our clients will continue to receive the same high-quality products which they have come to expect from each company,” Bryant explains.

And NCL will be taking over the Dream Team facilities in the Sun Valley neighborhood of Los Angeles, California. This will effectively expand the reach of NCL’s full service offerings. As Bryant puts it, “Dream Team’s convenient California location will allow NCL to provide additional development services for our existing West Coast customer base as well as prospective customers.”
