SCC announces speakers and offers registration discount for 2017 Scientific Meeting & Technology Showcase

This December in New York City, the Society of Cosmetic Chemists is set to host the 71st edition of the event, where scientists working in beauty and personal care as well as their colleagues in marketing, sales, and compliance learn about the latest trends and research impacting the industry.

Six highly credentialed speakers have already been confirmed. And through the end of this month, the SCC is offering an early-bird registration rate.

The scientific meeting and tech showcase will take place this year, December 11 and 12, at the Westin New York at Times Square hotel. There are discounted rooms available to registered attendees, but only on a first come, first served basis.

Speaking about science

The SCC has announced that Claudia Aguirre, Richard Blackburn, Elaine Fuchs, Jennifer Marsh, Amin Mazloom, and John C. Warner will all be speaking at the event in December.

Dr. Aguirre is a neuroscientist, specializing “in the connection between the brain and the skin,” according to the SCC site.

Dr. Blackburn’s work centers on the extraction of active molecules from plants and sustainability as it relates to cosmetics and material science.

Dr. Fuchs is a skin biologist currently serving as the Rebecca C. Lancefield Professor of Mammalian Cell Biology and Development at The Rockefeller University and as Investigator at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute.

Dr. Marsh is a research fellow in the beauty technology division of P&G Beauty. She’s been with the company for over 20 years and is known for her work in hair structure, bleach, oxidative chemistry, and dye kinetics.

Dr. Mazloom is the vice president of bioinformatics and software at the molecular genetics company ProdermIQ. That company uses data from the microbiome to better understand skin health.

Dr. Warner is perhaps best known as the co-author, along with Paul Anastas, of Green Chemistry: Theory and Practice. He’s now the president and chief technical officer at The Warner Babcock Institute for Green Chemistry.

What to expect

The program this year will follow two tracks: NextGen and Advanced. The Next Gen track is meant for young professionals on both the finished goods and supplier sides of the industry and will feature more basic information about cosmetics and personal care. The Advanced track is for more accomplished or senior industry pros looking to learn about new science, tech, and innovative products.

“By attending this year’s Annual Meeting, you will gain clarity and unique insight into the latest cosmetics research and trends, and receive up-to-the-minute guidance on the latest developments in the field," promises the SCC site. "Learn from our experts the cutting-edge research driving the industry forward, best practices to navigate today’s regulatory environment, and come away with ideas on how to most effectively apply these findings in your work."
