Perfect Corp and QVC collaborate on immersive shopping app

The beauty tech brand and the broadcast TV shopping network teamed up on an AR beauty purchase platform that lets consumers first virtually try on product that they see being demonstrated and then buy that product from QVC within the same app.

The feature launched yesterday for a selection of color cosmetic products from the Laura Geller New York brand. “Our collaboration with QVC and YouCam Makeup combines the best of TV shopping with the personalized try-before-you-buy mobile experience – consumers can then shop the latest products from Laura Geller New York immediately on their mobile device,” says Amanda Kahn, vice president of marketing and public relations for Laura Geller New York, in a media release about the innovative tech partnership.

“We are certain that this collaboration will result in reaching new consumers and are excited about the opportunities,” adds Kahn.

Try before you buy

The app was developed to allow mobile and TV shoppers the opportunity to try makeup before buying it. “The true-to-life one tap try-ons allow viewers to virtually test the products directly from their mobile device and explore color options and finishes in seconds in order to help make more informed and confident purchase decisions,” explains the release.

“This unique collaboration with QVC is reinventing the beauty shopping experience,” Alice Chang, CEO of Perfect Corp tells the press.

Chang goes on to explain how this tech collaboration benefits not only the consumer but also the retailer and the brand: “YouCam Makeup strives to push the boundaries of innovation and continues to solve and serve all of our beauty customer and brand needs. We addressed what can be a common pain point of home shopping—return rates—and introduced a virtual trial experience to ensure shoppers could feel confident in their purchase decisions.”

Engaged and engaging

After sending a quick text, interested QVC shoppers received an app download link and from there could use the new technology to try and buy all the featured Laura Geller New York products.

Ellen Lennon, director of beauty merchandising at QVC, describes the company’s introduction of the new AR service: “QVC has a longstanding history of bringing beauty products to life by leveraging the best storytellers and innovators behind our prestige brands. Our customer guides us to where and how she wants to engage with our brands.”

And the app offers more than just a simple lip color test, for instance “customers will have the ability to virtually try on full makeup looks from day to night created by Laura Geller herself to find the perfect colors and shades for them,” Lennon tells the press. “YouCam Makeup is changing the way people shop for beauty by providing the mobile ‘try before you buy’ experience, and we are excited to bring this to our customers for the very first time.”
