Beauty startups to compete for $5,000 prize at JPitch during in-cosmetics NA

Johnson & Johnson hosted a live event for cosmetics and personal care startups at this year’s in-cosmetics Global event. Now, the company is relaunching the initiative as JPitch. And, interested consumer product innovators and tech companies can still submit applications for the competition through September 22nd.

“Innovation truly is the backbone of the cosmetics and personal care industry,” emphasizes Daniel Zanetti, exhibition director at in-cosmetics North America, in a press release about the new JPitch event.

“Without continued investment in new products, technologies and services the sector simply wouldn’t survive,” says Zanetti. “Our aim with JPitch is to identify truly unique and inspirational innovation from all corners of the globe that will inspire a new generation of consumer products.”

The 2017 edition of in-cosmetics North America is taking place in New York City at the Javits Convention Center on October 11th and 12th.

Modern moment

This year’s in-cosmetics event in North America will include several features that are well aligned with the current industry environment. The event’s new programming for product development and marketing professionals is a good example. Marketing has long been crucial in cosmetics and personal care, but now in the North American region it’s absolutely key for ingredient makers and consumer brands of every size.

And, JPitch is similarly well suited to today’s entrepreneurial, innovative, and founder-led beauty business. Building on the success of this year’s in-cosmetics Global feature called Johnson & Johnson Innovation Flash Cosmetics Pitch, the JPitch event is a competition among startups.

A shortlist of the top-rated applicants will pitch their products and innovations live at in-cosmetics North America on Wednesday October 11th.  The judges are looking for “early stage entrepreneurial companies or start-ups with game-changing, transformative consumer or beauty technology innovation from across the world,” according to the press release circulated by Reed Exhibitions (the event organizers).

R&D professionals as well as business experts from J&J will judge the JPitch entrants and live competition. The JPitch winner will be announced at the event.

Distinctive developments

Johnson & Johnson is keen to find innovations and novel technologies in a select batch of categories. The categories reflect not only Johnson & Johnson’s current business but also substantial trends in the personal care industry more broadly. According to the press release, the categories of greatest interest follow: “devices & diagnostics, personalization, therapeutics solutions, outdoor care (adult and infant), sleep aids or monitoring, microbiome (adult & infant) and active naturals (adult and infant).”

Both J&J and the in-cosmetics event organizers are optimistic about the entertaining draw of the pitch as well as about the ideas and innovations that will be showcased at the event as result. “We’re thrilled to be launching the JPitch initiative at in-cosmetics North America. It is based on a concept that worked extremely well at in-cosmetics Global this year, so we are confident it will be equally successful,” remarked Zanetti.
