Listen to Cosmetics Design on Where Brains Meet Beauty

Editor Deanna Utroske is the guest on the latest edition of Where Brains Meet Beauty, a podcast hosted by Jodi Katz, founder of the Base Beauty Creative Agency. Over the course of the episode she talks with Jodi about what surprises her in the cosmetics, personal care, and fragrance business; about the natural beauty movement; about indie beauty; and much more.

Where Brains Meet Beauty is a free podcast series “starring the influential people who make the beauty industry dynamic and exciting,” according to the team behind the scenes. It’s available through the Base Beauty site as well as on iTunes, Google Play, and Tune In Radio.

Jodi Katz, founder and creative director of the Base Beauty Creative Agency, hosts each episode. And, her team is quick to point out that “Jodi is not a reporter and she’s not ogling stats.” They instead describe her as “part James Lipton, part Andy Cohen, seeking to reveal wisdom and insightful stories that will inspire future leaders in beauty.”

Need to know

The current episode, as well as the show in general, is as much about the individual people working in beauty as it is about the nuances, trends, and dynamics of the industry at large.

Katz and Utroske open the episode with a discussion of how they first met and the value and challenges of networking in this industry. They talk about where the natural beauty movement is at; about the progress of supply chain transparency; and about the specific challenges that indie brands face, like packaging.

Katz has been running the podcast for nearly a year now and has chatted with numerous industry leaders and behind the scenes pros.

For instance, early this year Katz interviewed Jillian Wright, co-founder of the immensely successful Indie Beauty Media Group that hosts the Indie Beauty Expo and just announced the launch of BeautyX, an educational event for entrepreneurs. Katz’s guests on the podcast have also included Natalie Mackey, founder and CEO of Glow Concept; accomplished industry executive Elana Drell Szyfer; Jane Park, CEO and founder of Julep; Tim Quinn of Armani Beauty; and there’s a whole batch of episodes where Katz interviews members of the Base Beauty team too.
