FDA leaders to speak at ICMAD cosmetics and personal care regulatory workshop

The one-day workshop will cover a full range of topics of interest to beauty brands big and small, ranging from legislation, claims, sourcing, and trends.

The non-profit International Cosmetic Trade Association, a professional organization for brand founders and leaders, will hold their 37th such Cosmetics Regulatory Workshop on May 17 in New York City. The event will run from 8am through to 5pm at Peclers Paris (number 3 Columbus Circle).

“Our all-day seminar covers the latest and most current issues in the cosmetic and personal care products industry that are essential to running a safe, successful business,” Pamela Busiek, ICMAD president and CEO, tells the press. “This is extremely valuable data that companies of any size – from small entrepreneurial ones to large public corporations – need to be knowledgeable about.”

“It’s a year’s worth of valuable information condensed into one day,” emphasizes Busiek in an ICMAD media release about the upcoming workshop.

FDA speakers

Linda Katz, the current director of the office of cosmetics and colors, at the FDA’s Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition, will be a featured speaker at the workshop.

In the morning, she’ll be giving a talk entitled US FDA Continuing Priorities for the Cosmetic Industry, according to the preliminary agenda on the ICMAD site. And later in day, Katz will speak about the FDA’s perspective on cosmetic claims. She’ll also be participating in a Q&A session at the close of the day.

The former director of that same office, John Bailey, will also speak on May 17. His topic will be New Legislative Changes On The Horizon.

Juan Jimenez, also of the FDA, will speak about FDA inspection, auditing, and compliance.

A broader look at regulatory issues

Other topics at the workshop include OTC regulation, media headlines, cosmetics claims, sourcing and more.

For instance, Craig Weiss of Consumer Product Testing Company and Sharon Blinkoff of Locke Lord LLP are giving a joint talk called, What’s Hot & New Regarding Cosmetic Claims.

And Emma Fric, global research and foresight director of PeclersParis will cover foresight and trends that are driving cosmetic innovations.
