Jill Scalamandre is new president of Bare Escentuals Beauty at Shiseido

On Friday, the accomplished beauty executive became president of the Bare Escentuals business, taking leadership of two color brands: bareMinerals and BUXOM. The new role is in addition to her work as president of Shiseido’s Global Makeup Center of Excellence, and it puts Scalamandre in charge of the brands’ strategic international growth.

Jill Scalamandre has been with Shiseido since 2016 when she became president of Shiseido’s Global Makeup Center of Excellence “where she is responsible for leading and supporting projects across the company to enhance and invigorate its prestige color cosmetics capabilities and product offerings,” as the media release announcing her new role explains.

Besides leading the company’s makeup center, Scalamandre has also been president of global marketing for the bareMinerals and BUXOM brands. “During the past few months her contributions to bareMinerals and BUXOM have been instrumental in the recent progress of these brands,” Shiseido Americas president and CEO Marc Rey tells the press. “Both bareMinerals and BUXOM are fundamental parts of the Shiseido portfolio, and I am confident that Jill will accelerate their growth by cultivating the DNA of these brands in a modern way while bringing out the best of the incredibly talented and outstanding teams working on these brands.”

Moving ahead

Susan Jurevics, Scalamandre’s predecessor in the role, has left Shiseido after nearly a year with the company. Rey expressed his appreciation for her work saying, “We thank Susan for her valuable contributions during her tenure and wish her all the best in her future endeavors.” Beyond that, the release only indicates that Jurevics is off to pursue other opportunities.

While Scalamandre is focused on opportunities for the Bare Escentuals Beauty brands. “It is an honor and privilege to further expand my role as president of bareMinerals and BUXOM, and I look forward to continuing the exciting work we’re doing with our talented teams to increase growth and consumer engagement for our brands in the US and abroad,” Scalamandre says is the company media release.

“We’ve made significant headway on a number of important initiatives, including sharpening the brand strategy, positioning, storytelling, and 360 degree activation which will be rolled out in early fall,” she explains, adding that, “I am committed to building on this momentum to maximize bareMinerals and BUXOM’s success in beauty in a way that is both fresh and innovative yet true to the essential, genuine and enduring strength of their original roots.”
