Agilex goes transcontinental with Fragrance West acquisition

This week, New Jersey – based Agilex Fragrances announced the acquisition of California-based Fragrance West. As a result of the deal, Agilex has manufacturing facilities on both coasts, a fact that the company believes will be a distinct advantage in the middle market.

Agilex also gains the Fragrance West customer base and the advantage of the company’s proximity to West Coast beauty, lifestyle, and tech trends.

“The West Coast of the U.S. is a unique ecosystem with thriving start-ups driving technology breakthroughs and natural lifestyle trends,” Armand de Villoutreys, president of perfumery and ingredients at Firmenich, tells the press.  Firmenich owns Agilex Fragrances and has since June of 2017 as Cosmetics Design reported. “By expanding our presence on the West Coast,” says de Villoutreys, “this acquisition advances our vision to shape the future of fragrance with leading innovation.”

The acquisition is expected to close next month.

Well-built business

Agilex is buying Fragrance West from HORN – Life Sciences. And that company’s president Jeff Martin, believes that the Fragrance West business is in good shape for the transaction: “We are proud to have developed strong relationships with leading consumer product companies on the West Coast and across the U.S. that have valued our commitment to innovation and service,” says Martin in the press release announcing the acquisition.

“Agilex, with its creativity and focus on serving small to mid-sized customers, will be a great partner for our trusted customers and a great long-term home for our colleagues,” adds Martin.

The strategic expansion of Agilex is a clear move to grow Ferminich’s presence in the States. “I am delighted to be expanding Agilex Fragrances capabilities from the East to the West Coast,” Mathias Hemberger, president Agilex Fragrances, says in the press release. “Fragrance West’s in-depth local knowledge coupled with our innovation capabilities, is a winning combination to delight our customers across the U.S. and open up new opportunities.”
