There were 250 indie beauty brands exhibiting at this year's event in New York. Many of those were either first time exhibitors or else more established brands that were launching new products.
Amongst the brand new brands launching at the show were Type: A, a unisex deodorant brand developed by founder Allison Moss as an effective but safe solution because it has not been formulated with any aluminium-based ingredients.
Tallow, Cannabidiol and Hawaiian ingredients
Also new was Primal Derma, which created a buzz because of its unique display that incorporated many of the agricultural elements related to the cattle-derived tallow that forms the base ingredient for this brand.
YUYO Botanics was debuting its three-strong cannabidiol skin care line, featuring morning and night-time tinctures, together with a body balm, all produced on the small family farm where the hemp for the cannabis oil is grown, in Tennessee.
O' O Hawaii was another brand new line of skin care products being featured on the show floor. This line has been produced with a series of unique ingredients all sourced from the islands of Hawaii and said to have unique properties that help give skin a boost.
Vertere Skin Care has played a big part in the Indie Beauty Expo since the offset and founder Bethany Hilt was on hand at this year's NYC event to demonstrate the latest addition to her line. The brand was launched in 2010 and is a high-end technologically advanced line that now includes a Corrective Smoothing Neck Serum, proudly shown by Bethany in the photo.
AveSeena is a brand new skin care line developed by Dr. Ebru Karpuzoglu, who is the the founder and CEO of the brand. A technologically advanced line, it combines naturals and top science to provide a line that is focused on enhancing the skin's microbiome, but without the use of probiotic ingredients.
Andrew Crella debuted his Formen color cosmetics line at the Cosmoprof North America event in 2015. Three years on and the brand has expanded significantly into the North American market and now includes a number of skin care products to compliment the make-up. At the IBE Andrew was debuting his Vitamin C facial wash.
O' O Hawaii was another brand new brand at the event, featuring a line facial and body care products that includes ingredients sourced from the islands. Holly Harding (pictured), is the brand founder and says that the emphasis on ingredients that include Hawaiian Red Algae and Nori Fruit Extract all serve to boost the appearance of the skin.
This year the New York City event featured 250 brands, all carefully curated to ensure that they represent the best of Indie Beauty. There were also a significant number of both brand new brands and brands that were not so new but were exhibiting at the event for the first time. The show floor also included a number of initiatives, including managed networking opportunities and demonstrations like the one pictured here.
Another new brand to the event was Primal Derma. The NYC-based company was started up by Matt Stillman and has been developed using grass-fed tallow from US cattle. Naturally rich in vitamins A, E, D, Omega 3s adn CLA, it is handmade at the business premises in Harlem.
Steven Q Wang, MD, is the director of dermatologic surgery and dermatology at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New Jersey, and has tapped into years of experience in skin care to develop his line of products that incorporate herbal remedies. Steven was also exhibiting for the first time, platforming his Herbal Rescue balm, Radiance Facial Oil and Nourishing Youth Serum
