“I started the brand in 2005 to fill a hole in the lip market, which was the lip scrub. From there I created the Lip Slip, which is a glossy balm,” CEO Sara Happ, tells Cosmetics Design editor Deanna Utroske.
Those 2 products are ”the foundation of the brand,” says Happ and they’ve done quite well in the marketplace for over a decade.
Looking to the future, Happ recently hired Peggy Fry as her brand’s president. Describing the sort of operational changes that Fry has made at Sara Happ Inc., Happ says, “I ran things very creatively….Peggy has come in and brought tech savvy and marketing savvy ….I always focused on the bottom line and profitability. She focuses on scalability and has really changed the trajectory of what we’re able to do.”
For her part, Happ now has more time to devote to creative endeavors like product development. And she believes that lip care has a lot to gain from the chemistry of luxury skin care.
