In her Indie Beauty Profile, Lishawn Lalonde, founder of Uliv Skincare, suggests that, as a solo entrepreneur, taking slow but steady steps forward is the best way to build a plant-based skincare line.

Mindful beauty is the next phase of naturals, of wellness, of self-care. And Lalonde’s brand is shaping up to be just the sort of slow, intentional skin care collection that mindful beauty consumers are drawn toward.

She’s encouraging shoppers to “[recognize] the importance of choosing plant- based ingredients, [and] develop a respectful relationship with your skin and the world around you;” and she is asking everyone to Live with intention, honor, and love; and always consider, How do Uliv?”

Here, the beauty entrepreneur shares a profile of herself and the brand.

Name: Lishawn Lalonde, Founder

Indie Beauty Company: Uliv Skincare

Launched: January 2017, at the Indie Beauty Expo in LA

Headquarters: Seal Beach, California

Cash flow: I personally own 100% of my company. We do not have any investors or [outside] funding.

Indie how? To me, an Indie Beauty Brand is a smaller independently owned beauty line.

Team work: I currently have no employees but hire smaller independent companies for bookkeeping, marketing, etc.

Distribution: The most Ulive Skincare product sales are transacted online, through our website ULIVSKIN.com and through Amazon Prime. We are also sold at local small businesses.

Years in beauty: I have worked in the beauty industry for over 25 years, first as a makeup artist and sales person for department stores and then moved into spas as an esthetician.

Years at Uliv Skin care: I have been working on Uliv Skincare for 2 years now!

Entrepreneurial experience: This is my first company! I have a lot to learn.

The business: Uliv Skincare is designed to correct and balance aging skin and inflammation of the skin, using vitally potent organic ingredients: transformative turmeric, manuka honey, antioxidant-rich essential oils, phytonutrients from nature’s garden [of] roses, rosemary, lemon peel, and calendula; as well as squalene and hylaluronic acid [to] hold in moisture.

The wow-factor: We take more of a holistic approach to skincare, so we fit well with beauty, wellness, and overall health platforms.

The customer: We are a good fit for someone who thinks about what they are putting in and on their bodies.

Milestone moment: I’m so very proud of our new packaging.

Advice for fellow beauty entrepreneurs: Be brave and be you! Take it one baby step at a time! There are no mistakes just learning lessons. Also, the Indie Beauty Expo is a great platform to show your line and see others.

Just one: Asked about her go-to product, Lalonde says, I always take my Golden Glow Oil Cleanser everywhere I go; it’s also a great body wash and leaves my skin glowing.
