Geltor shows bio-tech collagen at in-cosmetics North America

The new bio-design company is focused on developing proteins for consumer-facing industries like cosmetics and personal care. And at this month’s in-cosmetics trade show in New York City, the Geltor team was talking up its first ingredient, N-Collage. Here CEO Alexander Lorestani talks with Cosmetics Design about the company, the ingredient, and the possibilities.

Geltor launched N-Collage at in-cosmetics global earlier this year. Since then, the ingredient won Innovation of the Year at the CEW Beauty Awards. 2018 was the first year that Cosmetic Executive Women included categories for ingredient and packaging suppliers. The ingredient’s most obvious advantage is that it can be described as animal-free, since it’s made with the DNA data of collagen, carefully engineered microbes, and plant feed stocks.

But there’s something here of particular interest to after-sun care formulators: “there was a hole in the after-sun market,” Lorestani tells Cosmetics Design. So part of Geltor’s objective when designing N-Collage was to make sure the ingredient could “promote recovery from sun exposure.”

“What we’re able to show with this collagen,” says Lorestani, ”is… a 67 percentage point decrease in thymine dimer formation.”
