Black Chicken Remedies and the appeal of Australian beauty brands

Among the trends Cosmetics Design is watching in the Americas region this year is the influx and popularity of brands and ingredients from Oceana. Case in point: Black Chicken Remedies, the once tiny Australian organic skin care and wellness brand founded by Chey Birch, which has grown to be a global brand with a loyal clientele.

In a wide-ranging conversation with Cosmetics Design, Chey Birch, founder of Black Chicken Remedies, explains why product instability isn’t a deal breaker for today’s natural beauty consumer, discusses her brand’s water-free formulation strategy, and talks about the quality and variety of Australian ingredients.

“A lot of people are looking at Australia as being a very clean environment and being quite a harsh climate as well,” says Birch. “Our products are designed…for that harsh climate, so very moisturizing for dry skin.”

Black Chicken Remedies is essentially a skin care brand; but the product portfolio is quite broad, spanning not only personal care, skin care, and body care but wellness, oral care, and aromatherapy too. (The brand’s tongue cleaner is made of copper, a trendy material in its own right.) And, Birch credits the diverse product range with helping the brand meet various consumer expectations across the United States.

Watch the full video interview above to find out what’s coming next from Black Chicken Remedies, what Birch learned from talking with consumers at her Neiman Marcus pop-up in Dallas, Texas, and much more!
