In New York City this June, The Fragrance Foundation will host its annual awards event and celebrate the lifetime achievements of Ropion as part of the evening.

The Fragrance Foundation is a non-profit professional organization with a mission “to inspire the world to discover the artistry and passion of fragrance.” The organization’s membership comprises the world’s largest fragrance houses and brands, as well as other organizations that support the fragrance industry, and indie fragrance brands too.

Award-winning

The Fragrance Foundation’s Lifetime Achievement, Perfumer Award honors perfumers with exceptional skin and a raft of outstanding fragrances to their credit. “We are thrilled to honor Master Perfumer Dominique Ropion with his well-deserved Lifetime Achievement, Perfumer Award,” Linda G. Levy, president of The Fragrance Foundation, says in a media release announcing Ropion as the 2019 recipient of the award. “The Fragrance Foundation Awards celebrate amazing achievements in fragrance each year,” continues Levy, emphasizing, “and we look forward to celebrating the vast achievements of Dominique.”

In years past, the Foundation’s honorees have been: Harry Frémont, master perfumer at Firmenich (2017); Sophia Grojsman, senior perfumer, vice president at IFF (2016); Annie Buzantian, master perfumer at Firmenich (2015); Carlos Benaïm, master perfumer at IFF (2014);  and Alberto Morillas, master perfumer at Firmenich (2013).

Always learning

Ropion has been creating successful perfumes for some 30 years. He’s responsible for well-known scents such as Flowerbomb by Viktor & Rolf, L’homme and Y for YSL, Euphoria by Calvin Klein, and La Vie Est Belle by Lancôme.

He’s also a fragrance educator. According to a bio statement The Fragrance Foundation shared with the press, “after advising some of today’s perfumery stars over the decades of his career (Calice Becker, Veronique Nyberg, Emilie Copperman), [Ropion] took on a new challenge revamping the IFF perfumery school program with mentee Fanny Bal to foster IFF rising stars of tomorrow.” And Ropion himself has remarked how valuable working with up and coming perfumers has been for him: “I constantly learn from the student’s errors as they can turn into beautiful creative ideas.”

That sentiment is reflected in his comments about the forthcoming Fragrance Foundation accolade: “I’m proud of receiving this Award,” Rppion tells the press, “and am eager to see future generations of perfumers receive it in a few decades! A perfume contains endless combinations with the power to rouse the most diverse sensibilities. They’re definitely worth dedicating a lifetime of creation!”
