This year the event featured country Pavilions for Peru, Colombia and Brazil, while other Latin American countries being represented included Chile, Ecuador, Mexico and Argentina.
The region has been making a bigger and bigger mark on the industry in recent years, particularly on the back of natural ingredients sourced from the Amazon region, and also thanks to the growing success of larger sized Brazilian ingredient providers such as Beraca, Chemyunion and Aqia.
Chemyunion makes a splash
Chemyunion is one of the biggest ingredients players in the Latin American region and in recent years it has been upping its focus on international markets, particularly growing its supply to the North American market.
This year the company was promoting a raft of new ingredients and solutions to target the hair care market, which in the company's native Brazil, is also one of the biggest markets for this category in the world.
Cosmetics Design also caught up with Chemyunion CEO Marcelo Golino, who explained about how the company has had to adapt its offerings for the North American market. This interview will appear in Cosmetics Design USA very soon!
Aqia Quimica has built a name offering oleo chemical technology from naturally sourced, vegetable alternatives to petro chemicals, providing bio peptides, polymers, vegetable silica, micronized items, vegetable extracts and oils, proteins and functional lipids. At this year's event the company was promoting its Proshield Ubarn Photo Protection ingredient, which is designed to tackle UV and IR rays, as well as visible lights and many forms of urban pollution.
This small Brazilian company was making an impact at the show with its range of raw materials sourced from diverse regions across the country. The company wild harvests many of ingredients and upholds fair trade practices for a range of products that includes Tonka oil and powder, Pracaxi oil, Ungurahua oil and Guava seed oil.
Beraca was making a big splash at this year's event, promoting a range of natural and organically certified ingredients sourced from the Amazon rainforests and Brazilian ecosystems. The company says it is going back to its roots, by promoting raw ingredient ranges that include butters, oils and other extracts that are supplied worldwide.
The Brazil Pavilion played a big part on the show floor, showcasing some of the smaller- to medium-sized businesses that are providing services for the global formulation industry. Among the more prominent Brazilian companies were Beautycare Brazil (pictured), Atina Activos Naturals, Brazilian Kimberlite Clay and innovative ingredients supplier Cosmotec.
The only exhibitor from Argentina, Eco Oil Argentina is a company specializing in natural jojoba oil, sourced from the country. Established in 1995 the company has grown to become one of the major global suppliers of jojoba oil to the global cosmetics and personal care industry. The company has four major ingredient offerings, which include Golden Deodorized and organic jojoba oils.
