Ovation Science’s new skin care brand is already adding to its portfolio. The Vancouver, Canada – based company terminated a prior licensing agreement with Canopy Growth Partners and announced the ARLO Beauty brand just last month. And sunscreen will soon be joining the brand’s 4 other products on the US market.

“Shortly we will be launching ARLO Beauty online in addition to seeking distribution partners in the US and globally where permitted,” says Terry Howlett, president of Ovation, in a media release issued last month.

“The first products we are introducing include our anti-aging Day Cream, Night Cream, Eye Cream and a luxurious Hand & Body Lotion,” he says, adding, “We also have a pipeline of additional skincare products poised to launch later this year.”

The brand’s entire line (which apparently hasn’t hit the market just yet) is billed as anti-aging skin care enhanced with hemp-derived cannabidiol. And Ovation (which itself is owned by Skinvisible Pharmaceuticals) is banking not only on an escalating cannabis beauty economy but also on its patented ingredient delivery technology called Invisicare.

Building on past success

"We know our patented-protected products will be disruptive in the retail and online market place,” says Howlett, “based on the excellent customer response we have had to our medical / wellness products sold in US dispensaries.”

But Ovation is bringing in further help nonetheless. Last week the company announced a partnership with the peer-reviewed dermatology site Skincareguide.com; the publisher will act as Ovation’s “Medical Dermatology Advisory Board for cannabis formulated products….[providing] guidance, along with clinical, scientific, research and strategic advice to the Company as it continues to advance it's topical and transdermal cannabis product development,” according to a separate press release about the partnership.

Formulating with CBD

ARLO Beauty’s forthcoming sunscreen is “enhanced with the power of CBD,” as Doreen McMorran, chief operating officer of Ovation, notes in her comments to the press. However, none of the benefit claims mentioned in the release seem connected to the trendy new cosmetics and personal care ingredient.

Instead the release focuses on the product’s being broad spectrum and water resistant; and again, the company highlights its patented tech: “The essential benefits of Ovation's sunscreen formulation are derived from its patented Invisicare delivery technology. Along with the claims mentioned, ARLO Beauty sunscreen is also protected by a US patent for stabilizing sun filters,” explains the release.
