Clariant previews new ingredients and soon-to-be-opened Consumer Care Innovation Center

At this month’s NYSCC Suppliers’ Day ingredient discovery show in New York City, the team at Clariant spoke with Cosmetics Design editor Deanna Utroske about not only their most recent green-chemistry ingredient launches but also the company’s new Innovation Center.

This July, Clariant will open a first facility in New Jersey; one that is meant to be a “truly avant-garde, inspirational space for co-creating new innovative formulations with Clariant’s global personal, home and healthcare customers in North America,” a company spokesperson tells Cosmetics Design.

In the above Suppliers’ Day video interview, Michael Haspel, head of industrial and consumer specialties, describes the Center’s capabilities further: “We’ll take our existing formulation capabilities and expand that to handle more customer requests; and we’ll also be adding in a new claims substantiation laboratory as well as a salon to help out with the claims substantiation work,” says Haspel.

Then, Dr. Catherine Breffa, global head of personal care development at Clariant, steps in to speak with Cosmetics Design about the company’s newest line of personal care ingredients— Plantasens.

“We just launched a new platform of silicone alternatives under the Plantasens brand; and the two first ingredients are called Plantasens Flash 80 and Plantasens Flash 100,” explains Breffa. And she goes on to talk about the vegetable oil inputs and green chemistry technologies used to create the new Clariant personal care ingredients.
