Regulatory Update: The California Consumer Privacy Act takes effect soon

The new data privacy law goes into effect in January 2020 and could mean a significant change in business practices for any cosmetics or personal care venture that conducts ecommerce with California residents. Late last month, Cosmetics Design spoke to Avril Love, a business litigation lawyer with Tucker Ellis, to learn more about the CCPA.

The Tucker Ellis firm has been serving the legal needs of businesses (mergers and acquisitions, intellectual property, etc.) since 2003; and the firm currently has over 200 attorneys on staff and offices in major cities around the US. Avril Love has been with the firm since 2006.

In this video interview with CosmeticsDesign.com editor Deanna Utroske, Love explains the forthcoming California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), how beauty makers can prepare now, and what the costs could be for those that opt not to prepare.

Basically, the CCPA “is about data collection and data use,” says Love. And, “it’s going to give California residents a number of new rights,” such as the right to notice and the right to be forgotten.

Watch the full video interview above to learn what sort of consumer data is at issue, what other States are poised to enact data privacy laws, how Love is helping businesses prepare for the new regulations, and more.
