At next week’s meeting—open for both members and non-members to attend—the Cosmetic Industry Buyers and Suppliers will welcome new members and feature a presentation from Jillian Wright, co-founder of the Indie Beauty Media Group.

2019 has no doubt been the year of indie integration (an industry shift Cosmetics Design forecast late last year). Ingredients makers, packagers, fragrance houses, distributors, retailers, investors...everyone in the industry has an interest in indie. All the major tradeshows and professional organizations now serve and feature independent beauty brand leaders alongside legacy industry businesses. And CIBS is no exception.

CIBS is a professional networking organization for ingredient buyers and supplier that’s been helping beauty industry pros connect and build relationships since 1949. Throughout the year, CIBS hosts luncheon meetings, outings, and parties (some events are members-only). Luncheon meetings often feature an educational or informative presentation, and this month’s meeting is all about indie beauty.

The CIBS October Luncheon Meeting will take place on Wednesday the 16th at The Manhattan Club at Rosie O’Grady’s in New York City.

Jillian Wright to speak at CIBS October 2019 luncheon meeting

Jillian Wright co-founded the Indie Beauty Media Group in 2014 to meet the needs of beauty startups. What began 5 years ago as a single tradeshow / consumer discovery event has since grown into a global series including Indie Beauty Expo (IBE) tradeshows, educational summits (BeautyX), and most recently a supply-side tradeshow (Uplink Live).

At this month’s CIBS meeting Wright will give a talk called Independent Innovation. According to materials CIBS shared with Cosmetics Design, she will “discuss the sifts in consumer demand and production that have happened within the beauty industry over the last decade that led to explosive growth for indie brands.”

Independent cosmetics, personal care, and fragrance brands have seen successful in part because of their ability to intuitively respond to global mega trends, and because of the agile nature of startup businesses—indie brands can turn innovative and trendy ideas into products very quickly. And part of Wright’s talk next week will focus on relevant trends: “Wright will also highlight major product and category trends driving innovation in the space,” according to CIBS.
